Program Description
We service the solid
waste management needs of the people of Los Angeles
County and protect public health by ensuring that all
residential, commercial, and industrial solid wastes are
stored, collected, transported, transferred/processed,
and disposed of in a safe, sanitary, and environmentally
acceptable manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SERVICES:

Issue Solid Waste Facility Permits to all solid
waste facilities, including disposal sites, transfer
or processing stations, composting facilities, and
transformation facilities

Require that all new solid waste facilities follow
mandated permitting procedures

Review and, if necessary, revise or modify all
existing Solid Waste Facility Permits every five
years

Inspect each solid waste facility within its
jurisdiction on a regular basis to ensure compliance
with applicable regulations

Continue our effort to identify and investigate all
closed, inactive, illegal, and abandoned landfills
throughout the jurisdiction, and assign to each
site a rating based on the potential impact to human
health or the environment

Administer a Waste Tire Enforcement Grant that
inspects over 2500 tire facilities in the county,
inspect waste tire haulers and processors, ensure
the proper disposal of waste tires at permitted
facilities, and secure funding for the removal of
illegally disposed waste tires
